To obtain an image which is sharp and visible even in a bright room by using a fiber comprising an ethylene-vinylalcohol copolymer and containing a dispersible dichroic dye to produce a woven fabric having specified or higher transmittance for light and polarization degree.
A fiber comprising an ethylene-vinylalcohol copolymer and containing dispersible dichronic dye is used as warps and/or wefts to produce a polarizing woven fabric having ≥40% transmittance for light and ≥65% polarization degree. The dispersible dichroic dye is insoluble with water and an org. solvent and has such properties that a polyester film containing the dye by 0.2wt.% shows within 5% decrease in the polarization degree when the film is heat-treated at 85°C and 95%RH for 500 hours. The ethylene- vinylalcohol copolymer is prepared by hydrolyzing the vinyl acetate units in an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer by saponification to change the units into vinylalcohol units. The saponification degree of the vinyl acetate units is ≥95mol%, and preferably ≥99mol% based on the vinyl acetate units.
