To provide a polarizing plate that can simultaneously satisfy three points, namely high transmittance, high degree of polarization, and high color reproducibility, and is capable of high color reproducibility in a liquid crystal display; and to provide an image display using the polarizing plate.
The polarizing plate has a polarizer formed by a polyvinylalcohol-based film and has a simple substance of 44.0% or higher and a polarization of 99.90% or higher. A multilayer reflection prevention layer is formed on the surface of the polarizing board. A parallel transmittance of Tp440[%] at a wavelength of 440 nm, a parallel transmittance of Tp550[%] at a wavelength of 550 nm, and a parallel transmittance of Tp610[%] at a wavelength of 610 nm satisfy the following expressions (1) and (2). In the polarizing plate, 0.85≤Tp440/Tp550≤1.10...(1) 0.95≤Tp610/Tp550≤1.10...(2), and orthogonal transmittance at 440 nm, 550 nm, 610 nm wavelength is all 0.10% or less.
