To provide a pole-change type single phase induction motor easy to start, improving its operation efficiency, and having less noise and vibration.
In a pole-change type single phase induction motor, an auxiliary coil consisting of a first auxiliary coil group H1 and a second auxiliary coil group H2, a first main coil 4P, and a second main coil 2P are wound in a slot of a stator. When starting and operating the motor by using the first main coil 4P, the auxiliary coil connects first auxiliary coils 1a, 1b, which configure the first auxiliary coil group H1, in series, and the motor is started and operated by using the first auxiliary coil group H1. When starting and operating the motor by using the second main coil 2P, the auxiliary coil connects second auxiliary coils 2a, 2b, which configure the second auxiliary coil group H2, in series, connects the first auxiliary coils 1a, 1b, which configure the first auxiliary coil group H1, in parallel, and connects the second auxiliary coil group H2 and the first auxiliary coil group H1, in series, thus starting and operating the motor.
