To ensure a good polished surface without generation of lack in a core circumferential part by interposing oil between a polishing body and a ferule to which an optical fiber exposed by removing covering at one end of coated fiber of a plastic clad fiber, and polishing the ferule and optical fiber end face.
A grinding machine is provided with a polishing body 2 capable of roating horizontally and a support part capable of sliding up and down a ferule 14 holding a plastic clad fiber 11 composed of a core 12 of a polished body 1 made of quartz orthogonal to the body 2 in the above direction. The body 2 is comprised of a polishing sheet, grinding wheel or metal bonded grinding stones whowe particle 21 diameter is 3-18 micrometer, and oil 3 of such as soft viscous mineral oil is discharged onto an upper surface of the body 2. By performing polishing with the oil 3 interposed between a polished body 1 and the abrasive grains 21, the purpose is attained.
