To easily and certainly perform a dressing by transferring a dressing carriage in a state of the upper surface of a dressing surface plate in contact with a polishing tool, and reciprocating the dressing surface plate in the direction orthogonal to the transferring direction of the dressing carriage.
A dressing carriage 54 is transferred in the moving direction (a) and a diamond chip surface plate 56 is reciprocated in the reciprocating direction (b) in a state of the tip of a brush body of a resin brush surface plate 55 and a diamond chip embedded surface on the upper surface of the diamond chip surface plate 56 in contact with a polishing tool, and thereby a dressing of the polishing tool is easily and certainly performed. Thus, clogging of the polishing tool is eliminated by the brush body of the resin brush surface plate 55, the diamond chip embedded surface on the upper surface 56 of the diamond chip surface plate grinds the polishing tool, the polishing tool can be well reproduced without generating harmful stripes to recover a polishing efficiency.
