Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the subject addition product suitable for emulsifiers, dyeing assistants, wetting agents, etc., by addition polymerization of an alkylene oxide, styrene oxide, and an aryl alkanol followed by esterification.
CONSTITUTION: (A) Styrene oxide and an aryl alcohol, such as benzyl alcohol, are reacted for the etherification, and then (C) an alkylene oxide, such as ethylene oxide, is added thereto preferably in an amount of 1 to 80 mol per mol of the component (A) to obtain a polyaddition product represented by the formula wherein Q1 represents a 1-4C alkylene, the ring A represents a phenyl or the like, one of Y1 and Y2 represents phenyl and the other represents H, and m is 1 to 80, followed by reaction with (D) a dibasic oxyacid, such as maleic acid, and optionally by adding a base, such as ammonium and sodium hydroxide for the conversion to obtain the intended addition product.
