Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyallylamine derivative capable of being used as a novel thermoreversible hydrophilic and hydrophobic material by reacting the polyallylamine with an epoxy compound.
SOLUTION: While at most 200 mol.%, based on the polyallylamine monomer units, epoxy compound represented by formula II (wherein R2 is a 1-8C alkyl or an alkoxymethyl) is being added to an aqueous solution of polyallylamine at 20-60°C, they are reacted with each other to obtain a polyallylamine derivative mainly consisting of a component of formula I (wherein R1 is -CH2CH(OH) R2; R2 is as defined in formula II; x y and z are the molar fractions of the structural units, respectively; x is in the range: 0≤x<1 y is in the range: 0≤y≤1; z is in the range: 0≤z≤1; and y and z can not be 0 simultaneously). When this derivative is used as a thermoreversibly hydrophilic and hydrophobic material, the occurrence of phase transition can be controlled by changing its concentration, the concentration of common salt added and the pH.
