To provide a biocompatible material enabling its active ingredients to be sustainably and suitably functioned in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, medical materials and regenerative medical materials.
The biocompatible material comprises a polyamino acid derivative composed of α-, β- or γ-type polyamino acid monomer units each represented by specific general formula (I), (II) or (III) and being characterized in having in the molecule a biofunctional molecule through at least one mode, i.e. either containing at least one of the monomer units of the general formula (I) or with at least one of the terminals blocked with the biofunctional molecule, and also having a compound with the ability to fix to cells or biological tissues through at least one mode, i.e. either containing at least one of the monomer units of the general formula (II) or with at least one of the terminals blocked with a compound having the ability to fix to cells or biological tissues.
