PURPOSE: To improve the compatibility, impregnation and adhesion between glass and polycarbonate resin by pretreating a glass cloth with an aq. emulsion of polycarbonate resin and a surface treating agent.
CONSTITUTION: One hundred pts.wt. of a low-molecular-weight polycarbonate resin and about 5 pts.wt. of a nonionic emulsifier are emulsified in water to obtain an aq. emulsion of polycarbonate resin contg. 2-40 wt.% solid component. A surface treating agent (e.g. γ-aminopropylethoxysilane) is added by 0.1-8 wt.% to the emulsion to obtain a pretreating soln. A glass cloth is dipped in the soln., then squeezed to about 30% pickup amt. and dried to obtain a polycarbonate resin reinforcing glass cloth. The pellet or short fiber of polycarbonate resin is then disintegrated and laminated on 20-85 vol.% of the glass cloth, and the laminate is pressed, heated and formed to obtain a glass fiber-reinforced resin composition.
