Title:
POLYELECTROLYTE MEMBRANE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3817213
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyelectrolyte membrane for a solid polymer-type fuel cell having a high ion exchange capacity and a high proton conductivity by solving the problem of the deterioration of the material characteristics of a base material by causing graft reaction to a fluorinated polymer through irradiation of radiation beam.
SOLUTION: The polyelectrolyte membrane is constituted of the blend of a fluorinated polymer with a sulfonic acid group introduced by radiation graft polymerization, and a perfluorosulfonic acid-based ion exchange material and/or a perfluorocarboxylic acid-base ion exchange material. Preferably the fluorinated polymer is a powdery material with an average particle diameter of ≤50 μm or a fibrous material with an average diameter of ≤50 μm.
