To provide a polyester made functional containing a (meth)acrylate terminal group which can meet the medical technological requirements relating to decomposability, weatherability, mechanical properties and optical properties.

The polyester contains a (meth)acrylate terminal group to be represented by formula (I): CH2=CRCOO-PE-OCOCR=CH2 {wherein R is CH3 or H; PE is [-A-OCO-B-COO-]m or [-CHR'-COO-]n-A-[-OCOCHR'-]n; A is a 2-20C alkylidene group or an alkoxylidene group having 2-1,000 alkoxylidene units; B is a 2-10C saturated alkylidene group; R' is H or CH3; m is 0-100; and n is 0-100, provided that m+n is 2-200} and has, as the characteristic features, (a) a content of a short-chain di(meth)acrylate to be represented by formula (II): CH2=CRCOO-A-OCOCR=CH2 of less than 5 wt.%, (b) a content of a hydroxyl group of less than 0.25 mole per mole of the (meth)acrylate, and (c) an APHA color number of less than 200.
