Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled film capable of high-density recording and superiror in traveling performance, by regulating height of an average surface protuberance to a specified value or less, and its friction coefft. in a specified range.

CONSTITUTION: The present polyester film is prepared by using terephthalic acid 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, or any of their alkyl esters, and ethylene glycol as starting materials, and when needed, another material as the third structural units. Its average surface protuberance height is ≤9nm, and its friction coefft. is 0.3W1.3. As a result, the obtained polyester film is superior in traveling performance, and capable of high-density magnetic recording, and suitable for use in a video magnetic tape, magnetic video disc, floppy disc, etc.
