PURPOSE: To obtain a polyester-modified polyol resin by reacting a polyester resin with a polyol resin obtained by reacting bisphenol epoxy resins, a specific polyester resin, and compounds.
CONSTITUTION: A bisphenol epoxy resin having an epoxy equivalent of 170-500 and a number-average mol.wt. (Mn) of 350-1,200 is mixed with a bisphenol epoxy resin having an epoxy equivalent of 1,500-5,000 and an Mn of 2,000-5,000, a compound having active hydrogen, e.g. p-cumylphenol, bisphenol A, and a carboxyl-terminated polyester resin having an acid value of 20-70 and an Mn of 1,500-6,000 and containing two or more carboxyl groups, in a given proportion. The mixture is heated with stirring to give a homogeneous melt. A catalyst is added to the melt, and this mixture is reacted at about 100-200°C for a given period to yield a polyol resin. A polyester resin having an acid value of 0-50 and an Mn of 1,500-6,000 is added thereto, and the resulting mixture is reacted at about 100-200°C to obtain the objective resin having a softening point of about 70-180°C, a glass transition temp. of about 50-90°C, and an Mn of about 800-5,000.
