To obtain the subject monofilament that excels in effect of suppressing scum formation in screen gauze weaving because of containing a specific quantity of a modified block copolymer, and has high mechanical strength and high modulus of elasticity, which are necessary for precision screen printing.
This polyester monofilament for screen gauze is a sheath-core type conjugate monofilament having 6g/d or higher breaking strength, 3.5g/d or larger elastic modulus at an elongation of 10%, and where the core component is composed of a polyethylene terephthalate, and the sheath component contains 0.5-40wt.% of a modified block copolymer obtained by melt-kneading, in the presence of an organic peroxide, a block copolymer composed of the following components (a), (b) and (c): (a) 25-98.99wt.% of a propylene-ethylene random copolymer component composed of 85-20mol% of a propylene-based monomer unit and 15-80mol% of an ethylene-based monomer unit, (b) 1-70wt.% of a polypropylene component, and (c) 0.01-5wt.% of polybutene.
