PURPOSE: To obtain polyester woven or knitted fabric having down-like fibril on the surface of woven or knitted fabric, down-like specific handle and flexibility and further high water absorption properties and a dry feeling.
CONSTITUTION: Woven or knitted fabric comprising constituent yarn of woven or knitted fabric composed of polyester yarn having a great number of streak- like channels having 0.1-3μm width, ≥5μm length and ≤5μm intervals of adjoining channels extending in the direction of fiber axis on the surface of the yarn and having fibril-like fiber end with 0.05-5μm diameter and ≥10μm length projected from part of the surface of the woven or knitted fabric is obtained by weaving or knitting polyester yarn containing 0.1-8wt.% of an organic sulfonic acid metal salt or 0.12-10wt.% of a mixture of the organic sulfonic acid metal salt and a polyethylene having ≤10,000 average-molecular weight, treating the fabric at ≥120°C for ≥10 seconds with dry heat and then treating the fabric with an alkali to reduce ≥5wt.% of the woven or knitted fabric.
