Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the subject copolymer containing three specific kinds of recurring units at specific ratios and having excellent mechanical strength, moldability, etc., in high efficiency by reacting specific components such as dihalogenobenzonitrile in a neutral polar solvent in the presence of an alkali metal compound. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (X is halogen; n is 1-2) is made to react with a dihalogenobenzonitrile of formula II, a compound of formula III (Y is group of formula IV, etc.) and 4,4'-biphenol in a neutral polar solvent in the presence of an alkali metal compound to obtain the objective copolymer having a melt viscosity of >=1,000 poise at 400 deg.C and containing (A) the recurring unit of formula V, (B) the recurring unit of formula II and (C) the recurring unit of formula III at molar ratios A/(A+B+C) of 0.65-0.85, (B+C)/(A+B+C) of 0.15-0.35, B/(A+B+C) of >=0.85 and C/(A+B+C) of >=0.05.
