To provide an aromatic polyimide resin having a phenolic hydroxyl group, suitable as a binder for an electrode of a nonaqueous battery, and a method for using the same, the polyimide resin showing heat resistance, solvent resistance, and good adhesive strength to a powdery electrode material and a current collector, and also being able to contribute to improvement of battery characteristics.
An aromatic polyimide resin contains a phenolic hydroxyl group having, in its structure, a repeating unit represented by the following formula (1), and the resin is used in combination with an epoxy resin. (R1 represents a residue of diphenyl ether tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride; R2 represents a residue of bis(3-aminophenoxy)benzene; and R3 represents a residue of diamino-4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone).
