To provide a polyisocyanate composition for a rigid polyurethane foam which has excellent foaming efficiency, storage stability, moldability, foam strength, dimensional stability and adhesion, and a method for producing the rigid polyurethane foam using the composition, in which a polyisocyanate having good storage stability and a polyol having low viscosity are used with a low polar foaming agent, in particular, a hydrofluorocarbon as a foaming agent.

The composition contains an isocyanate group terminated prepolymer obtained by reacting a polymeric MDI (a1) with a modifier (a2) at a ratio of (a1):(a2)=80:20 to 99.9 to 0.1 (in a mass ratio). The modifier contains a 3-50C active hydrogen-containing hydrocarbon compound (a2-1) and/or a 3-50C active hydrogen-containing halogenated hydrocarbon compound (a2-2). The method for producing the rigid polyurethane foam uses the composition.
