PURPOSE: To obtain a poly(keto-ester) consisting of a carbonyl unit, an oxycarbonyl unit and a bonding unit obtained from an olefinic monomer, and having photolytic properties and biodegradation properties and useful for plastics or wax.
CONSTITUTION: The objective poly(keto-ester) with a mol.wt. of 1000 or more (pref., 10000-1000000) and having at least 2 mol.% of oxycarbonyl consists of a carbonyl unit (A), the oxycarbonyl unit (B) and a bonding unit (C) obtained from an olefinic monomer represented by the formula (wherein R1-R4 are each H, an alkyl, an aryl, O, N, S or a functional group having one or more halogen atoms) and is characterized by that the respective units are arranged irregularly to substantially constitute a straight chain polymer skeleton and the units A, B form 0.1-50 mol.% of the polymer and a mol ratio of units A:B is (0.01:1) to (100:1).
