PURPOSE: To prevent liquid crystal from oozing out of gaps between polymer dispersion type liquid crystal layer pattern formed by an electrodeposition coating method by providing a polymer dispersion type liquid crystal layer, which holds liquid crystal in a polymer matrix in a grain state, divisionally as plural areas, and forming electric insulating thin films between the areas.
CONSTITUTION: The polymer dispersion type liquid crystal display device has a display layer 1 sandwiched between substrates 11 and 12 formed of glass, films, etc., having transparent conductive films 13 operating as electrodes, and the display layer 1 consists of the polymer dispersion type liquid crystal layer which hold the liquid crystal 14 in the grain states in the polymer matrix 15 containing pigments of the primary colors, i.e., red R, green G, and blue B and electric insulating thin films 16 at the gaps between the areas of the polymer dispersion type liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal 14 is preferably capsular. The electric insulating thin films 16 are formed by, for example, lithography or screen printing by using ink containing electric insulating resin. Consequently, the gaps between liquid crystal layers are excellently sealed to obtain the display device where no liquid crystal oozes out.
