Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject polymer composed of an α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer and a vinyl monomer, having a specific property, causing little variation of the physical properties with temperature, soluble in water and/or an alkali and having excellent transparency.
SOLUTION: The objective polymer is produced by polymerizing (A) an α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer and (B) a vinyl monomer in such a manner as to obtain a polymer having an acid value of ≥70mgKOH/g and a parallel light transmittance of ≥70% and giving a differential curve having two or more peaks in the range of -80°C and +120°C by differential scanning calorimeter. Preferably, the component A is acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid and the ratio of the component A is 9-40wt.%. An alkyl acrylate and/or an alkyl methacrylate preferably account for ≥30 wt.% of the component B. Preferably, the objective polymer is further incorporated with a polyvalent metal salt such as magnesium acetate or zinc carbonate to improve the mechanical strength, etc.
