Title:
POLYMER LATEX BASED ON VINYL CHLORIDE HAVING TWO AVERAGE PARTICLE SIZES, ITS PRODUCTION AND ITS APPLICATION TO PLASTISOL IMPROVED IN ITS FLUID FLOW CHARACTERISTICS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3177488
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject latex which is low in its viscosity, readily usable, increased in productivity on molding and gives a plastisol useful in coating and molding products by using a vinyl chloride polymer having two groups of average particle size distribution.
SOLUTION: When the corresponding monomers are subjected to micro suspension polymerization in the presence of (A) a first seed polymer comprising particles containing at least one polymerization initiator soluble in an organic solvent and (B) a second seed polymer whose average particle size is smaller than that of the first seed polymer, water, an anionic emulsifier, a soluble metal salt and a reducing agent, the average diameter of the component A is adjusted to 0.6-0.9μm. In a preferred embodiment, the initiator soluble in organic solvents amounts to at least 2.5wt.% based on the component A and the weight ratio of the component B to the component A is set to 0.5-2 and the polymerization reaction is carried out in the presence of at least one of water-soluble initiator, particularly ammonium persulfate.
