PURPOSE: To provide a polymer latex with further improved properties, such as a low content of free monomers, good water-stain resistance, low water absorption, alkali resistance, and freezing-thawing stability, formed by polymerizing comonomer mixture of a specific composition.
CONSTITUTION: The intended polymer is obtained by polymerizing a starting comonomer mixture of (A) methyl methacrylate, (B) butyl acrylate, (C) vinyl pivalate, and (D) a monomer selected from (meth)acrylic acid, (meth)acryl amide, diacetone acryl amide, etc., which comprises 0.5-5 wt.%, based on the total weight of the monomers, of stabilized monomers and in which each wt.% of the components A-C x1-x3 based on the total quantity of all the monomers satisfies formulas I-IV [wherein CONV is a monomer conversion and 99% (m/m) or less; Tg is a glass transition temperature and 0-50°C; WA is a water absorption value and 45% m/m or less, WSR is water-stain resistance at least 5 after 24 hr; x1-x3 are at least 0.5 wt.% of the total weight of the components A-C].
