To provide a polymer for forming a film having an inverse wavelength dependency even though the film is a single body, to provide the film formed by using the polymer and to provide another optical material.
A cyclic olefinic polymer comprises 30 to 70 mol% constituent unit (A) derived from ethylene or a 3-20C α-olefin, 20 to 50 mol% constituent unit (B) derived from a cyclic olefin represented by a prescribed chemical formula and 0.1 to 20 mol% constituent unit (C) derived from an aromatic vinyl compound and simultaneously satisfies the following requirements [1] to [3]. [1] Intrinsic viscosity [η] in decalin at 135°C measured by a measuring method according to ASTM J1601 by a transfer viscometer is in the range of 0.4 to 5.0 dl/g. [2] Peak in 1H-NMR is in the range of 6.0 to 6.8 ppm. [3] The glass transition temperature obtained by a differential scanning carolimeter (DSC) is in the range of 100 to 200°C.
