To provide a polymer and a polymer product.

The polymer product is produced from about 3 to about 50 wt.% of at least one monoethylenic unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, about 50 to about 97 wt.% of at least one monoethylenic unsaturated monocarboxylic acid and one or more carboxyl-free monothylenic unsaturated monomer. The polymer product can be produced by a batch process or a continuous process. The polymer product is produced using at least one chain transfer agent and in an aqueous solution at pH of about ≤3, in order to maintain the molecular wt. of the polymer product at less than 30,000. The polymer product is useful as an additive, in a detergent, a cleaning composition and a water circulating system.
