Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film-forming polymer with improved chemical stability, used for antifouling paint to inhibit the settlement and growth of marine organisms such as barnacles and algae by release of a biocide for the marine organisms.SOLUTION: The polymer comprises a salt of (i) a basic group with a first pKof the conjugate acid of at least 4.0 and (ii) an organic acid with a first pKof 2.0 or less, the salt being pendant from the backbone of the polymer, wherein the basic group is covalently bonded to the polymer backbone.
