Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a plastic lens having a high refractive index, a high Abbe's number, a low specific gravity, and excellent impact resistance.

CONSTITUTION: A polymerizable composition is prepared by mixing a mixture comprising 20-60 pts.wt. poly(meth)acrylate (A) having an alcoholic hydroxyl group in the molecule and having an aromatic ring substituted with a halogen except fluorine or phenyl and at least two (meth)acryloyl groups and a poly(meth)acrylate (B) not having the above substituents in the molecule and having at least two (meth)acryloyl groups, and 80-40 pts.wt. monofunctional unsaturated monomer (C) containing a styrene compound with 0.1-2 equivalents, based on the alcoholic hydroxyl groups of the mixture, of an isocyanate or a polymerizable composition prepared by adding 5-20 pts.wt. glycidyl ether of a substituted phenol to 100 pts.wt. above composition. Plastic lenses are produced by copolymerizing this compositions.
