Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a polymerizable monomer capable of producing an antimicrobial polymer exhibiting an excellent antimicrobial activity, excellent in safety and stability and capable of keeping its activity over a long period.
CONSTITUTION: A polymerizable monomer of formula I [R1 is H, methyl, chloro or cyano and R2 is a 1 to 4C alkylene; R3 is a 3 to 10C alkylene; R4 is a 6 to 18C alkyl; R5 to R8 are each a 1 to 3C alkyl; A is methylene, phenylene, CH2O, C2H4O, CO, CON(R9) (R9 is H or methyl) or vinylene; (m) is 0 or 1; X and Y are each an univalent anion or a divalent anion may be formed from both X and Y], e.g. N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-1,4-diaminobutane-N-lauryl bromide. The compound of formula I can be obtained by reacting a compound of formula II with a compound of formula III or by reacting a compound of formula IV with a compound of formula V (Z is a halogen, a 1 to 4C alkoxy, a 2 to 5C acyloxy, benzenesulfonyloxy, etc.) in the presence of a base.
