Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem in polar compound which has high chemical stability, the ability to align liquid crystal molecules, and high solubility in a liquid crystal composition, and which has a high voltage holding ratio when used in a liquid crystal display device. The problem is solved by a compound represented by formula (1). For example, Ris an alkyl having 1 to 15 carbon atoms; rings Ato Aare each cyclohexylene or phenylene; Z, Zand Zare a single bond or alkylene having 1 to 10 carbon atoms; a, b and c are each a number from 0 to 4; d and e are each a number from 1 to 4; Pand Pare each a polymerizable group; and Spand Spare a single bond or alkylene having 1 to 10 carbon atoms.
