To obtain a polymerizable polymer useful for medical tools having hydrophilic property, biocompatibility and mechanical strength and polymer carrier for clinical diagnosis by including a specific styryl group and phosphorylcholine group at the side chain.
This polymerizable polymer is represented by formula I {X is a group of formula II, formula III or formula IV [M1 is a group of formula V [R1 is H or methyl; A is a 2-4C alkylene; (q) is 1-10]; M2 is a group of formula VI [R2 is H or methyl; R3 is an alkyl ester, etc.]; m1 is 2-1,000 and m2 is 0-1,000; (a) is 0 or 1]}. The polymer is obtained by subjecting, e.g. a monomer such as 2-methacryloyloxyethyl-2'-(trimethylammonio)ethylphosphate to radical polymerization in a solvent such as ethanol at 30-90°C by a solution polymerization using a compound having a functional group such as carboxylic acid group and thiol group as a chain transfer agent and then subjecting the resultant polymer to condensation reaction, etc., with a styryl group-containing compound such as p-aminostyrene.
