Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve water resistance and resistance to scuffing by mixing colloidal silica dispersed in an alcohol or cellosolve and a specified monomer incorporating unsaturated double bond and then distilled to remove the alcohol or cellosolve.

CONSTITUTION: Colloidal silica sol dispersed in an alcohol or cellosolve and a monomer incorporating unsaturated double bond which has chemical formulas expressed by I-IV (where, Ad is admantane; R1-2 are hydrogen or methyl, ethyl groups; R3 is hydrogen or methyl group; n=1 or 2) are mixed and heated and distilled to remove the alcohol or cellosolve the obtain polymerizable silica sol having <50nm particle size and 1-50wt.% silica content. To the reaction product obtained by reacting this silica and 70wt.% silane coupling agent soluble >5% in water, 0.1-10wt.% initiator of radical polymerization is blended and then cured to obtain hardened resin.
