Title:
POLYMERIZATION OF ALPHA-OLEFIN
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6011510
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To facilitate the production of malodor-free polymer, by polymerizing an α-olefin in the presence of a catalyst comprising a solid catalyst component containing Mg, a halogen and Ti, an organoaluminum compound and a specified aromatic carboxylic acid ester.

CONSTITUTION: A catalyst is prepared by combining (A) a solid catalyst component consisting essentially of magnesium, a halogen, and titanium with (B) an organoaluminum compound (e.g., triethylaluminum) and (C) an aromatic carboxylic acid ester in which a hydrogen atom of the aromatic ring is replaced with a 7C or higher (oxy)hydrocarbon group. Examples of components C include methyl p-heptylbenzoate and ethyl p-decylbenzoate. A polymer substantially free of malodor can be obtained by polymerizing a 3C or higher α-olefin (e.g., propylene or 1-butene) in the presence of the above catalyst.
