Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a polymer of a uniform quality in good yields per unit catalyst, by stabilizing the polymerization reaction by (co)polymerizing ethylene at a high temperature and a high pressure in the presence of a specified liquid Ziegler catalyst.

CONSTITUTION: A magnesium compound of formula I (wherein R1 is a 1W20C alkyl, or a 7W20C aralkyl, R2 is an 8W10C alkyl, and 0≤l<1) with a titanium compound of formula II (wherein R3 is 1W20C alkyl, X1 is a halogen, and 0≤m ≤4), e.g., methoxytitanium trichloride, in an inert solvent. A catalyst is prepared from the obtained titanium-containing solution and an organoaluminum compound of formula III (wherein R4 is a 7W8C aralkyl, phenyl, or the like, and 1<n<3), e.g., diethylaluminum chloride. Ethylene or a mixture of ethylene with a 3C or higher α-olefin is polymerized at a pressure ≥200kg/cm2 and a temperature ≥125°C in the presence of the above catalyst.
