Title:
POLYMERIZATION OF FLUORINATED OLEFIN MONOMER IN AQUEOUS EMULSION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3383064
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To suppress the formation of a low mol.wt. fraction by increasing the efficiency of a hydrogenated chain transfer agent by allowing a specific compd. to be present when a fluorinated olefin monomer is polymerized in an aq. emulsion by using the hydrogenated chain transfer agent.
CONSTITUTION: A fluorinated olefin monomer (e.g.; tetrafluoroethylene, vinyl fluoride) and, if necessary, a non-fluorinated olefin are (co)polymerized in an aq. emulsion in the presence of a hydrogenated chain transfer agent (e.g.; n- heptane, 1,1-difluoroethane) (A) selected from hydrogen, aliphatic hydrocarbon and 1-20C fluorohydrocarbon and a branched chain aliphatic alcohol wherein a ratio of the number of hydroxyl groups and the number of methyl groups is 0.5 or less. This polymn. reaction is pref. performed in the presence of a (micro)emulsion of a perfluoropolyoxyalkylene at 50-80°C under 15-40 bar by using an initiator such as disuccinyl peroxide or the like.
