To provide a polymerization initiator capable of forming polymer particulates without producing a free dispersion stabilizer, and to provide polymer particulates obtained by using the polymerization initiator.
The polymer particulates are obtained by polymerizing a polymerizable monomer in a liquid medium comprising a polymerization initiator composed of a polysaccharide to which an organic group including an azo group or a peroxy group is bonded. The polysaccharide may be, for example, cellulose derivatives (methyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, ethylhydroxyethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, cellulose acetate and the like), dextrin or its derivatives (dextrin, cyclodextrin and the like), mucopolysaccharide or its derivatives, chitin or its derivatives, and chitosan or its derivatives. The content of the azo group or the peroxy group is about 0.005-10 wt% of the polymerization initiator.
