Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide a process for polymerizing a norbornene monomer in the presence of a metathesis catalyst which, when dissolved in a norbornene monomer solution, can give a stable solution which can be stored for a long time, therefore can be advantageously applied to reaction injection molding, and can give a polymer of a high Tg at high conversion. CONSTITUTION:The title process comprises polymerizing a norbornene monomer in the presence of a metathesis catalyst system essentially consisting of a metathesis catalyst and a metathesis cocatalyst. The metathesis catalyst comprises a complex of an antioxidant containing at least one aromatic ring or an ultraviolet absorber containing at least one aromatic ring with a halide of molybdenum.
