Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a polymer having different mol.wt. depending on a reaction solvent in a high conversion rate and in high yield by using a catalyst system comprising a mixture of a Pd cation source and a specified acid to polymerize ethylene unsatd. compds.
CONSTITUTION: Monomers of ethylene unsatd. compds. (preferably monoolefins such as ethene and propene) are brought into contact with a catalyst system to be polymerized. The catalyst system is obtd. by mixing (A) a Pd cation source (preferably palladium acetate) and (B) an acid with <3 pKa which contains atoms of the VA group in the periodical table (preferably 0-diphenyl phosphinobenzene sulfonic acid) and which can form a complex with palladium in the catalyst system. The component B is preferably used in ≤5 equiv. to 1 gram atom of Pd in the component A. The polymn. is preferably carried out at 40 to 130°C and 2 to 60 bar.
