NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R is H, lower alkyl, lower alkanoyl, tri-lower alkylsilyl or sulfo; n is 3-5 or 7-10; m is 0 or 1) or salt thereof.

EXAMPLE: Sodium salt of 3-geranyl geranyl-4-hydroxyphenyl sulfate.

USE: An anti-inflammatory agent, antiallergic agent, remedy for acute pancreatitis, gastropathy, acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS), etc.

PREPARATION: A phenolic compound expressed by formula II or salt thereof is reacted with H2SO4, chlorosulfonic acid, a pyrosulfate, etc., in an inert solvent, such as carbon disulfide, pyridine or aniline, to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I. The reaction temperature is normally while cooling heating.
