PURPOSE: To provide a polystyrene polymer with improved impact resistance by uniformly dispersing a silicone rubber powder obtd. by a specific manufacturing method in the polystyrene polymer.
CONSTITUTION: This compsn. comprises a blend of a polystyrene polymer and a silicone rubber powder uniformly dispersed in the polymer, wherein the particle is obtd. by forming an aqueous emulsion consisting essentially of more than one particles of polydiorganosiloxane having hydroxy end group and a wt. average mol.wt. of not less than 50,000 (A), procuring the particle in the emulsion by a crosslinking agent selected from the group consisting of an org. tin curing catalyst, a siliane of the formula: QSi (X)3 (wherein X is a 1-6C alkoxy, a hydrolyzable group such as Cl, etc.; Q is a univalent group contg. an unsaturated group), and a hydrolyzed condensed product (B), polymerizing the unsaturated monomer in the emulsion of the precured polydiorganosiloxane particle formed in the process B(C), and collecting the particle formed in the process C(D).
