PURPOSE: To provide a novel polysulfide compound having hydrolyzable silyl groups and provide a room-temperature-curing composition which does not need any curing agent such as lead dioxide and is excellent in surface nonstickiness by using said compound as the principal component.
CONSTITUTION: A polysulfide compound having hydrolyzable silyl groups and represented by formula I (wherein R1 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group; X is a hydrolyzable group; a is 0-2; n is 4-49; R2 is a group of formula II or -(CH2)m-NHCO-; m is 1-8; and R3 is H or CH3) is obtained by reacting an SH- terminated polysulfide compound of formula III with an epoxysilane of formula IV, a vinylsilane of formula V or VI or an isocyanatosilane of formula VII. A room-temperature-curing composition is prepared by using the obtained polysulfide compound as the principal component. If necessary, a tin catalyst such as tin octoate is used as a cure acceleration catalyst.
