PURPOSE: To industrially obtain the subject porous film having less defects, excellent in water repellency, air permeability, etc., useful for an air filter, etc., by stretching a composite formed by stacking polytetrafluoroethylene films in the longitudinally stretched state, in the width direction under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: This porous film is obtained by stretching a composite formed by stacking two or more polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) films, obtained by either a paste extruding of polytetrafluoroethylene produced by an emulsion polymerization, or in some case obtained by subjecting the extruded film to semi-baking thereafter, in a longitudinally stretched state at a temperature of the melting point of the baked PTFE or below, under conditions where each film independently behaves to the stretching, altogether in the width direction. Further, a stretched areal ratio by the stretching in the longitudinal and width directions is preferably 50 fold or more, and the stretching temperature in the width direction is 100-200°C. The obtained stretched composite is heat-set by heating at the stretching temperature in the width direction or higher and the melting temperature of the baked PTFE or lower.
