Abstract:

To provide a polythiophene bearing heteroatom-containing substituents and having such characteristics as to enable itself to effect high self-integration and form precise layer structure.

The polythiophene is composed of recurring units of formula(I), being ≥1,000 in number-average molecular weight and 1.0-1.8 in Mw/Mn (Mw is weight-average molecular weight and Mn is number-average molecular weight). In formula(I), R1 and R2 are each H or a substituent bearing at least one functional group containing heteroatom(s), wherein at least one of R1 and R2 groups is the above substituent or R1 and R2 are joined together to form a ring bearing at least one functional group containing heteroatom(s).
