Abstract:
PURPOSE: To impart excellent water-resistance, heat-resistance and low-temperature film-forming properties to a polyvinyl acetate emulsion, by adding an organic phosphite to the emulsion.
CONSTITUTION: An organic phosphite of formula (RO)3P (R is H, alkyl, aryl, or alkylaryl), e.g. tributyl phosphite, or a mixture of said organic phosphite and a plasticizer or a high-boiling solvent, is added to a polyvinyl acetate emulsion or a vinyl acetate copolymer emulsion. The amount of the additive is usually 0.1W 30wt% based on the solid content of the resin.
