Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compsn. which has characteristics inherent in a polyvinyl alcohol resin, such as a stable soln. viscosity and high film strengths, by compounding a polyvinyl alcohol resin with a starch deriv. obtd. by grafting a specific monomer onto starch.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compsn. comprises a polyvinyl alcohol resin and a starch deriv. which is obtd. by grafting 1-20 pts.wt. at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of a carboxylic acid, a sulfonic acid, an amine, a quaternary ammonium salt, an amide, a vinyl ester, and vinylpyrrolidone onto 100 pts.wt. starch-based compound which has a viscosity of a 10wt.% aq. soln. of 1,000cP or lower. The compounding ratio of the resin to the starch deriv. is pref. (100:1) to (100:200). The compsn. gives a biodegradable film, an adhesive compsn. excellent in high-speed application and initial adhesiveness, a barrier agent for paper excellent in high-speed application, etc.
