To provide a porous material with which specific components in gas, e.g. a hydrocarbon, carbon dioxide or the like can be selectively and effi ciently adsorbed and separated, and to provide a method of adsorbing and separating the gas using the same.
The porous body exhibits at least one peak at the diffraction angle corresponding to (d) value of ≥1 nm in a X-ray diffraction pattern and has at least one part in it, where the variation in the amount of nitrogen absorption (expressed in terms of the volume of nitrogen at standard state) is ≥50 ml/g when the relative vapor pressure is changed by 0.1 in the range of the relative vapor pressure of 0.2 to 0.8, in the nitrogen adsorption isothermal line measured at a liquid nitrogen temperature. The method of adsorbing and separating the gas comprises bringing the gas into contact with the porous body which has moso-pores having a center pore diameter of 20 to 50 nm in a pore diameter distribution curve and has porosity in the wall of a pore and adsorbing and separating components contained in the gas.
