Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous material that has a broad range of suitable burning temperature and is excellent in thermal resistance and thermal shock resistance.SOLUTION: A porous material includes aggregates and a binder to bind each aggregate to form pores between aggregates. The binder contains crystalline cordierite, and further a rare earth element or zirconium element. The mass ratio of the binder is 12-45 mass% relative to the total mass of the aggregate and the binder. Preferably, the binder contains MgO of 8.0-15.0 mass%, AlOof 30.0-60.0 mass%, SiOof 30.0-55.0 mass%, and the rare earth element or zirconium element of 1.5-10.0 mass% relative to the total mass of the binder.
