To obtain the subject porous material composed of a thermoplastic resin, especially a thermoplastic fluororesin, having mechanical properties essentially uniform in all directions and high mechanical strength and useful as a separation membrane, etc.
This porous material is a three-dimensional network structure material containing interconnected cells and composed of a non-fibrous fine bonding member formed by the coagulation and bonding of the particles of a thermoplastic resin A. The objective porous material can be produced by mixing the component A (preferably a tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene copolymer, etc.) with (B) a resin soluble in an organic solvent (preferably a fluororesin soluble in an organic solvent), heat-treating the mixture at a temperature above the melting point of the component B and below the melting point of the component A and removing the component B by dissolving with an organic solvent.
