To provide a production method of a porous thermoplastic resin sheet having a large sheet thickness and excellent flatness, and a porous thermoplastic resin sheet obtained by the above production method.

The production method of a porous thermoplastic resin sheet includes steps of: setting a nonporous thermoplastic resin sheet in the space of a mold in which a spacer is set between flat plates facing each other to form a space with a predetermined thickness; setting the mold with the nonporous thermoplastic resin sheet set therein in a high-pressure vessel; adjusting the temperature in the high-pressure vessel into a range from -30°C to +20°C of the glass transition temperature of the thermoplastic resin as a source material of the nonporous thermoplastic resin sheet so as to impregnate the nonporous thermoplastic resin sheet with a high-pressure gas; and reducing the pressure in the high-pressure vessel to expand the high-pressure gas in the nonporous thermoplastic resin sheet, and thereby, foaming the non-porous thermoplastic resin sheet.
