PURPOSE: To obtain a compact and thin portable computer by setting a battery under a keyboard and putting a liquid crystal display device on the battery and the keyboard.

CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display 3 is set into a liquid crystal case 6 and also attached to a main body case 1 via a hinge part 7 in an openable way. This figure shows a battery 2 kept separate from a computer main body. In a working state, however, the battery 2 is put into a space under a keyboard 4. The device 3 is shown in the diagram with the part 7 opened and then put on the keyboard 4 when the part 7 is closed. In such a constitution, the battery 2 is set under the keyboard 4 and the battery 2, the keyboard 4 and the device 3 are laid over the other when the device 3 is closed. Thus the planar size is reduced together with reduction of the thickness attained for a portable computer.
