To provide a portable cutter capable of enhancing a working efficiency and also downsizing the cutter.
The portable cutter includes: a housing; a cutting blade 3; a saw cover 4 for covering nearly a half of the outer circumference of the cutting blade; a base 6 abutting on a workpiece; and a projection change mechanism by which a projecting quantity of the cutting blade from the base can be changed. The projection change mechanism is provided with: a link which is an adjusting guide extended from the base to the rotating direction of the saw cover; and a transfer control part 5 which controls transfer of the adjusting guide relative to the saw cover. The link has: a first guide part connected to the base; and a second guide part connected rotatably to the first guide part. The cutter is configured so that, when the projecting quantity of the cutting blade is maximized, the transfer control part 5 is situated on the base side from a rotation support shaft 62.
